In the new league alignment, the Washington Capitals will be facing the New York Rangers six times in the 2012-13 regular season.
Based on tonight’s performance, the Caps will be just fine with that. Continue reading

Ovie Comes On Down To The Price Is Right
Set your DVRs for goofy fun: Ovie will be on The Price Is Right on Monday, December 20th at 11:00 a.m. Eastern.
How much would you pay to see a Happy Gilmore-type throwdown, except this time between Sidney Crosby and the newly-svelte Drew Carey? Continue reading

Dear Mr. Fantasy, Play Us A Game
The good folks at Fantasy Hockey Scouts asked me to be their Capitals expert again for their annual Bloggers Breakout Q&A. Each year they poll the blogosphere for team-related and league-wide analysis; my pick last season of Mike Knuble as breakout player earned high praise in retrospect, despite some initial doubts (“Really? You’re picking a 37-year-old for a breakout season?” Yes, really.). Continue reading
Crafting High-End Hockey Sticks
In this clip, you’ll see how carbon-fiber EASTON hockey sticks are created . . . it’s a pretty cool six minutes, particularly the automated slap-shot machine in the final testing (I want one!). Too bad it only shoots at 75 m.p.h.—perhaps that’s why Ovie’s and Green’s cannon-blasts seems to snap their sticks like twigs at inopportune moments. Continue reading

A Capital Morning in the Post
Congratulations to Dan Steinberg of DC Sports Bog (and my fellow University of Delaware Fighting Blue Hen) who this morning snagged some prime real estate on The Washington Post‘s page A1 with his article about the Alex Ovechkin.
Capitals First-Timers — Loving The Game
We here at OFB, and most of our readers, are long-time Capitals fans. We’ve been through the tough times; the dashed hopes; Juneau jubilation and Cup-finals disappointment; the Jagr-signing euphoria and the Jagr-reality let-down; the dreaded (but necessary) fire sale.
So it’s easy to forget what it was like when we first fell head over heels for hockey, and the Washington Capitals in particular.
Mrs. OrderedChaos’ coworker Megan had never been to a Capitals game. Her brother plays hockey in Upstate New York, but the family overall is pretty new to the sport. With her mother in town, she thought taking her mom (and herself) to a Caps game was a perfect activity for a visiting family member, god bless her. Continue reading
