No Wednesday Dinner with Dad for Bourque
Both Corey and Tarik have reported via Twitter that Chris Bourque has been claimed by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Corey is reporting that Boyd Kane has been recalled to take Bourque’s place and that Michael Nylander will not play tomorrow night in Boston. Continue reading

On the Media Front, This Morning Seems Like Christmas for Caps’ Fans
An OFB colleague directed email my way for my perusal in the pre-coffee hour of Wednesday. I rubbed my eyes thrice at its contents: Today’s Washington Post, he informed, contained a free-standing section on the NHL and the Capitals. Before morning coffee, I am most susceptible to a wide array of pranks, so I went to my usual newsstand on K St. on my way into town today, and sure enough, Section J of today’s WaPost, titled ‘NHL ’09, greets its perusers with a large, above-the-fold color shot of Ovi, and contains nothing in its copy but puck. Capitals Keeping it G-Rated
All the players seemed to be in good spirits, and looking forward to the season with great anticipation. The media luncheon, always a fun gathering, just provided further evidence that Capitals fans can rest assured: the team’s chemistry off the ice is just as good as it is when the puck drops. Continue reading

Lunch with One Hundred of Our Hockey Friends
At the Capitals’ media luncheon on Tuesday I was able to survey, in off-the-record fashion, 15 separate media organizations (OFB not included) to determine their respective prognostications for the Caps this season. The results:
* Only two media outlets predicted that the Caps wouldn’t advance out of round 2 of the NHL playoffs
* Eight outlets forecasted the Caps advancing all the way the to Eastern Conference finals
* Fully five outlets predicted that the Caps would reach the Stanley Cup finals Continue reading

Ted Leonsis: Russia, Rockets, and The Cup
The Washington Capitals’ always-engaging owner, Ted Leonsis, chatted with OFB over the weekend at the Caps Convention. Topics in this four-minute video range from the old Patrick Division, to a good-will tour of Russia with the team, to whether winning a Stanley Cup is indeed rocket science. Continue reading

Exit Stage Left (Maybe) (Eventually): The Michael Nylander Impasse
This impasse with Michael Nylander has a similar feeling — a welcome well worn out, no possible future together, a coach and player who just can’t co-exist. Continue reading

Print Press Subtlety
I gotta chat with Examiner Caps’ beat reporter Brian McNally — I think he had something to do with the art for his paper’s front page today:
