Ovie Comes On Down To The Price Is Right

Set your DVRs for goofy fun: Ovie will be on The Price Is Right on Monday, December 20th at 11:00 a.m. Eastern.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will also help [Jeremy] Roenick introduce a showcase that will include a trip to Pittsburgh to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins play against the Washington Capitals at the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Heinz Field on New Year’s Day; VIP passes to the NHL’s New Year’s Eve Party in Pittsburgh; field/ice-level access during the Capitals and Penguins team practices at Heinz Field on Friday, Dec. 31; and a new 2011 Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid car.

How much would you pay to see a Happy Gilmore-type throwdown, except this time between Sidney Crosby and the newly-svelte Drew Carey?

I guess if you’re the captain of a team in the midst of a major meltdown, might as well have fun doing it, right?

  2. JonnyP says:

You do realize these are taped about a month or more in advance of the show airing, right?

  3. sonja says:

I’m sure this was/is part of the team’s commitment for the MWC, since Crosby will also be there. I also don’t know the taping schedule for this show, but I’m guessing it was filmed quite a while ago … perhaps even before the meltdown started.

I think it will be a lot of fun to watch these guys ham it up on TPIR … what a hoot!!

  4. Thank you, Jonny and Sonja, for chiming in with a reality check — yes, these shows are filmed well in advance of airdate.

And hey, it’ll be nice to watch Ovie helping the contestants win, eh? 😉

captain meltdown, crysby, whatever anyone wants to say, i don’t care.

hockey players on any daytime show is great move for the sport.

i don’t know if an NHLer has been on daytime TV since Gretz did the young and the restless…

  6. Agreed, Pete — it’s good for the league, and it should be good fun too.

  7. Hittman says:

Is Boudreau still coach? if so, wake me up when December ends.

  8. sonja says:

I was doing some thinking and realized this show would likely have been taped before the season even started to be able to get both Crosby and Ovechkin together in the same studio at the same time without impacting one or both of their team schedules … so likely mid to late September for broadcasting now.

I’m looking forward to it … shameful, geeky confession – I loved TPIR when I was a kid. So it will be fun to introduce my kids to it in this fashion as well. It’s also great PR for the NHL, the MWC and hockey in general. The only thing that could be better is if they had a couple of top women hockey players on doing the showcase as well, to show the girls that this sport is for them as well.

Should be fun to watch, I hope Ovie at least get’s to spin the wheel. It will also be fun to see how well they understand his murdered English.
