Right before the Caps stinker performances in Florida this week we took some time to talk to the boys on ‘Overtime’ on 106.7 The Fan. Always a fun gig. Some of the issues they discussed — second line center by committee, the underwhelming performances this season by a litany of skilled forwards, the captain’s ongoing, perplexing struggles — were illustrated anew on the road this week. Give it a listen here:

In case anyone’s wondering (the Caps last night suffered their 6th shutout this season), the modern day record for suffering the most shutouts in a season was apparently Columbus’s 16 in 2006-2007: http://thehockeywriters.com/shutout-leafs-on-pace-for-all-time-futility-record/
Not sure what the Caps’ record for that is. I assume it would’ve been in one of their initial seasons in the mid 1970s, though I seem to remember them having more defensive than offensive problems then.
Pathetic! That’s the only word I can come up with on the Caps performance during the last 2 games. There was zero effort against the Panthers & Lightening. The teams in the SE have improved while the Caps have remained stagnant. Don’t know the shutout records for the Caps, but I’d like to know if there is a “whif” record. The main players have been whiffing on shots all season and those that are hit go flying so far off the net it takes teammates out of the play. I haven’t seen anything like it. It seems only the Caps opponents have adjusted their game. Ovie’s having trouble because he hasn’t change his style, his game needs to evolve, if not he’ll be an average scorer. The PP is the same thing over and over, the opponents aren’t worried since the Caps never change. Nothing about this season has impressed me yet and I’m beginning to get worried that the ship for the Stanley Cup has already sailed.
unshakable faith….
I think they need to call up some Bears…..they play their hearts out
