A Capital(s) Engagement

Dana and Ryan after the proposal -- check out the ring!

For lifetime Washington Capitals fan Dana Essick, it was the ideal scenario: getting engaged at a Capitals hockey game.

So when Dana and her boyfriend Ryan Revier were able fit in a preseason game Sunday while visiting from Charlotte, Ryan decided it was time to propose.  Dana got her “perfect world” engagement at the close of the first period  (you can see Ryan getting down on one knee below).

The couple had gone ring shopping back in March, but Dana said she had no idea the proposal was coming yesterday. Ryan said only four people knew in advance about his plans -– her parents and her two best friends.

They don’t have a wedding date set yet, but they do know they’ll be back in D.C. in December. The only thing that didn’t seem in harmony with the two was their choice of players: Dana wore an Alexander Semin shirt Sunday, while Ryan said his favorite player is Nicklas Backstrom.

We’re pretty confident they’ll make it past that slight discrepancy. Congratulations, Dana and Ryan!

Also, your trusty OFB correspondent here took the liberty of checking out the ring, and “beautiful” doesn’t even begin to describe how lovely it looked.

Ryan proposing at the Capitals' final preseason game before the 2010-2011 season.

A game to remember.
