Ugh, I saw this RT’d about 100 times today. I love hockey and always will. I also love World Cup soccer (and many of the European leagues). Let’s not compare totally different sports to make some wishy-washy argument that one is better than the other. Too bad we couldn’t watch Ovi play up until last week and then roll right into the World Cup, eh?

    Nate Ewell: ballin’

  3. Jake says:

I love Ovie, I love hockey, and I love soccer, but this is a dumb statement. Soccer is a lower-scoring game than hockey–you can’t compare the two. If we’re making those comparisons, I’m sure Kobe averages more points per game than the World Cup and Ovie combined.

I file this under the heading of BS with a capital BS.

Seriously, how can you compare hockey to soccer? Let the dreamers fantasize all they want, this balloon isn’t taking off anytime soon. And as ERIC noted, Ovie should have been playing hockey into last week. His 0.69 goals/game didn’t mean squat where it counted–in the HOCKEY playoffs–insofar as helping the Caps advance was concerned. So how will this help him with soccer? Let’s get a grip on reality and just let this rumor die away slowly while we wait for September and for hockey to again re-engage our collective consciousness.
