Are You Sure He’s Not From Buffalo?

Yesterday’s post on “My Very Worst Date” was an especially unfortunate one, as our own Capitals were indirectly involved.

I had a block of tickets to a Capitols [sic] hockey game and needed one more body to fill a seat so I threw the invitation out to a couple of guys I’d been chatting with on a personals site. The one who was interested replied to my invite with, “You’d be hard pressed to find a guy from the Midwest who would turn down friends, hockey and beer.” So I met him in person for the first time at a bar across from the arena before the game.

We made it through the initial get-to-know-you stuff without any red flags, until he told me about some community service he’d done a while back when he was a Marine. Not to knock Marines, but I have not known many to volunteer time without it being mandatory. He finally fessed up that he got caught stopping traffic in the middle of a busy road for no reason. I asked him how much alcohol was involved, and he said “some.”

Hopefully the game had a better conclusion than the date did.  To read the rest of the story, go here.

  1. Mike says:

So, DC Chick, how many marines have you known? Maybe they can’t do much volunteering because they’re on call 24-7 defending people like you. Give us a break!

  2. Hey Mike, did you actually read this post? ’cause if you did you’d see that it’s a link to *someone else’s* date story, which we linked to because it involved the Capitals. If you want to make a comment to the woman who actually wrote the quote, well, this is not the place. Perhaps try the last sentence of the post.

  3. Gary says:

Additionally, DC Sports Chick is married to a former member of the US Army. She is fully aware of the sacrifices made by the men and women of our military.

Nevermind the fact that she did not make the comment as pointed out by OrderedChaos.

  4. Chanuck aka Mr DCSC says:

Gary I am a Gulf War army vet, plus I have to point out she has relatives in the Marines(USNA) and Army(West Point) one is serving in Afganistan. And don’t forget she works for the Dept of Navy.

I have to also say I have met plenty of people in the service that are dumbasses like the “date boy”. Stupid people are everywhere.

  5. Erika says:

I’ve had a bad Caps-related date too… Nothing to do with any military though.

  6. Gary says:

No slight to you Chanuck. Was keeping the comment general, but you know what I meant.
