Maritime Mischief Visits Vacationing Caps’ Fans

Canadian vandals recently made victims of my friends Mike and Marleen. Canucks, the stereotype goes, are exceedingly congenial, deferential, almost annoyingly polite. They make backyard rinks, not war. But in this instance, they invaded my friends’ home along coastal Nova Scotia and ransacked it, smearing it with profane imagery. Continue reading

Boudreau’s Wicked Fastball

For a Saturday smile, check out the Washington Capitals’ Coach Bruce Boudreau’s first pitch at the Nationals game this past Thursday. The Caps’ site has some terrific video from before, during, and after the pitch. Gabby is in top form in the video — well, maybe not as a pitcher, but certainly as an entertainer! Continue reading

A Numbers Glut on the Blueline? It Would Appear

Chomping at the bit for hockey season to start? The Caps are, too, and they’re not waiting until next month to ramp things up. The Capitals Report is back in full broadcast mode; I gave it a live listen yesterday, … Continue reading

Have the Capitals Found Their Cal Ripken Sr.?

Talk to a downtrodden Orioles’ fan today (is there any other kind?) and the common lament among most, beyond censure for the obvious disgrace that is Peter Angelos’ management, is the loss of what was known as “the Oriole Way.” … Continue reading

Svitov, Meet Orlov

The knock on 2009 second-round selection Dmitri Orlov around draft time was his play in his own end, that he was a bit too one-dimensional as an offensive defenseman. But this video highlight showcases what every Caps’ fan would want to see from him: rudely congregating with NHL bust (and Brian Sutherby spitter-on-er) Alexander Svitov in pre-season KHL action: Continue reading

The Nats Strike a Blow Against Regional Sports Futility

Knowing less about baseball than perhaps Y.E. Yang, I need to tread carefully and briefly in comenting upon it, but it seems to me to be a great thing that beyond the eleventh hour last night the Nationals signed the … Continue reading

Upper Decker for Ovechkin

A tidbit for any of you hockey card collectors: Upper Deck has signed Alexander Ovechkin to an exclusive autograph card deal. Per The Beckett Blog and an Upper Deck press release, Ovie will also be featured on card packs themselves.
Not to worry, autograph-seekers; this news does not restrict Ovechkin from signing memorabilia in any way. It does mean, however, that if you want those cool pre-autographed hockey cards with bits of jersey or whatnot in ’em (pictured below), Upper Deck is the only brand that will have ones from Ovechkin.
