A Russian Hockey Legend in Washington’s Russia House
WRC-TV this week passed along video of Lindsay Czarniak recently interviewing Sergei Fedorov at Washington’s Russia House, a favorite hangout of the Caps’ Russian players. For two of our bloggers, seeing a strikingly attractive blonde in a Russian restaurant with hockey as a backdrop had to evoke powerfully fond memories. Continue reading

Washingtonian’s Can’t Miss Clicks
My wife’s copy of the Washingtonian arrived over the weekend. After a few minutes of her flipping through the pages surveying, she said “Did you know OFB is in the magazine?”

NCAA Office Hoops Pools Are So 20th Century
So now we know the field of 16 competing in single elimination fashion for the right to visit the nation’s capital in spring and the first-ever Frozen Four hosted by Washington. Ours is a tidier sheet of brackets, with far less pretender fluff.
Now we at OFB want your Frozen Four picks.
There’s a fresh feel to this field — defending champ BC is prematurely golfing; ditto for the Gophers and Badgers.
In a field of really hot goaltenders, who will be the hottest in each regional? Are we in store for a couple of those crazy multiple overtime sudden death region-deciders? The fun begins next Friday, and by Sunday night we’ll know who’s headed to D.C.
All this week, up til noon on Friday, send us your Frozen Four picks to email@onfrozenblog.com Continue reading

Please Don’t Mess With Perfection
Some classic movies stand up as well today as they did when released… and remakes of said classics would not just be a bad idea, but an abysmal one. Think of The Godfather. This Is Spinal Tap. Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Natural. The Princess Bride. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Nothing about these films cries out, “Please, do it again but with modern actors, and tweak the plots for modern sensibilities,” right? When a rare movie is done well enough the first time, leave it alone. Continue reading
