Travel Warning for Capitals’ Sunday Matin?©e

Metro may be your best option for traveling to a Sunday game. No track maintenance or single tracking is scheduled for Sunday — sure, that might change, but for now it looks like smooth sailing. But it will likely be an easier commute than trying to park near the arena on the day of the Chinese New Year parade.

The parade will be closing streets in the area of the Verizon Center, and no vehicles will be allowed to park along the parade route from 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning to the conclusion of the parade. So from 7:00 a.m. until after the game ends, no parking on the following streets (the times listed are when the streets will be closed to all traffic):

    • H Street NW between 6th and 7th Street – closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    • I Street NW between 5th and 6th Street – 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    • I Street NW between 5th and 7th Street – 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    • 7th Street NW between I and G Street – 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    • G Street NW between 7th and 9th Street – 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    • 8th Street NW between G and H Street – 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    • H Street NW between 8th and 6th Street – 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    • 6th Street NW between Massachusetts Avenue and G Street – 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

So come on into town and support the Caps in the battle of the nations’ capital cities . . . just give yourself a little extra commuting time if you want to be there in time for both national anthems.
