Dmitry Kugryshev’s New Media Debut
We chatted with Washington Capitals’ draft pick Dmitry Kugryshev (2008, 2nd round) back in September — he had some fun with his answers and clearly enjoyed the interview.
Now Kugryshev has a blog of his own; check it out here, and read on for an excerpt about his time in Washington D.C. Continue reading

Andrew Gordon Recalled, Could Make NHL Debut Tonight
The Washington Capitals have recalled defensemen Bryan Helmer and forward Andrew Gordon from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. Continue reading
Garts Comes Home
On about a dozen occasions the past couple of years I’ve been able to listen in on conference calls arranged by the Caps with prominent members of the hockey community. Generally there are a couple of bloggers participating in the calls, and at least a half dozen members of the traditional media. I enjoy listening to all of the questions asked, and their answers. The press, it seems to me, makes a fairly limited range of inquiries of any given hockey figure, whereas the bloggers seem to bring a special spirit of inquiry to the exercise, one that’s expansive and creative and a bit outside to proverbial box. It’s The Viktor Kozlov Show
Tireless interviewer and translator Dmitry Chesnokov of Sovetsky Sport recently chatted with Washington Capitals forward Viktor Kozlov. As usual, a few gems were unearthed during the discussion, including some reaction to the infamous Alex Semin interview. Continue reading

A Christmas Card from Canada
Late this autumn I was able to strike up a correspondence with a cheerful Canadian reader and gifted writer, Marc Baril, of Ottawa. He shared with me the manuscript for a piece on pond hockey he had published in the Ottawa Citizen on January 30, 2005, and I enjoyed it so thoroughly I knew I had to share portions of it with this blog’s audience. Continue reading

“Washington is, indeed, asking around about goalies”
During The Hotstove on last night’s Hockey Night in Canada’s broadcast, another rumour surfaced concerning the Washington Capitals. Per Al Strachan, “Washington is, indeed, asking around about goalies”. Adding more fuel to the fire was Scott Morrison who said that earlier in the year the Caps had a deal in place with Chicago. The particulars? Nylander and a pick for … Continue reading
The Zambonis on CNN
In May of this year, I got to meet Dave Zamboni of North America’s favorite All-Hockey Band The Zambonis. Never mind the fact that Dave is a really cool guy — he has a collection of hockey organs, I mean how cool is that — Continue reading
Joe Finley Back In Action for North Dakota
More good news on the Capitals’ prospects front:
Senior defenseman Joe Finley, last season’s WCHA plus-minus leader and a number-one draft choice of the Washington Capitals, saw his first action since he suffered a concussion in UND’s second game of the season Oct. 11 at Massachusetts. Continue reading
