Here are some images — still and moving — from Mike Gartner’s number retirement. I had recorded the press conference with Gartner, but since Capitals backup goaltender Brett Leonhardt already edited the Caps Video, we’ll use theirs. Plus, their equipment is much better — their budget is bigger, too.

So how much did the jerseys go for?
Watching warmups and seeing Kozlov skate around with no helmet reminded me of Langway on the ice…without the ‘stache.
I’m not sure what the final numbers were, but both the Ovechkin and Fedorov sweaters were up to $1,000 before the end of the pre-game skate.
Too bad the replica sweaters were the ones with the big patch instead of the larger actual logo with individual sewn-on letters. Also, was that a black border on the banner?? Are the others like that? Why not red-white-blue? No gripes, just observations from waaay out of town…
Everyone who did not ‘WHOOP WHOOP’ when Gartner mentioned Larry Murphy in the speech should feel shame. 🙂
I agree with the big sweater patch.
I do believe the new banner is the same as the previous banners with a black border.
Ovie and Feds both went for over $3000, with Green, Laich and Semin over $1000 each.
I hope there was a #80 throwback for Stretch.
Nice to see the stache immortalized.
A coworker of mine won the Matt Bradley jersey… he was proudly displaying it at work today, and while he didn’t reveal the price he said it was “just under four figures.” Nice touch having Garts sign one 1 on each jersey and the jersey-wearer sign the other 1.
OFB –Nice coverage of the Garts ceremony.
One interesting note. Garts was apparently given a whole batch of tickets for his friends from Toronto. They were sitting by the press box on the upper level…several rows.
After the first goal, I knew the Caps would win as they all…wearing Toronto jerseys…cheered.
Seemed to me like bad Karma..get invited to your friends number retirement and wear the opponents jersey and cheer for the opponent. Perfectly acceptable…but definitely bad Karma.
