Capitals Raid The Farm For Reinforcements

With the injury bug decimating the Washington Capitals’ locker room, the club has summoned a quartet of Bears to bolster the lineup. The following Hershey players will be in D.C. tonight:

  • Karl Alzner
  • Chris Bourque
  • Sami Lepisto
  • Graham Mink

No official word on who among these farm-purging call-ups will be in tonight’s lineup.

Update: per Tarik, the Capitals have assigned Chris Clark (broken arm) and Jeff Schultz (broken finger) to the Long-Term IR, which  means they’ll be out for a minimum of 10 games. It also clears approximately $3.4 million in cap space for the Hershey crew.

Update: per Corey, the Capitals retroactively placed Alexander Semin and Mike Green on the injured reserve and are able to be removed on Friday.

Good luck to them all, but this could really hurt the Bears game tonight. Hershey already made a few call ups from South Carolina as well.

  2. OrderedChaos (Mike Rucki) says:

Absolutely, Brian — the good (like scouting, drafting) AND the bad (like injuries) always trickles down from NHL to AHL and beyond.

  3. mostholy2 says:

When did Clark get injured? Last I heard he was healthy, but just not playing well.
I guess they had to make cap space somehow until they can trade Nylander.

  4. Blackaces says:

Man, they sure are calling up lots of players. If they need anyone else, I think me and some of by Novice league Fairfax Bulldog teammates are ready if called. We’re waiting on you, GMGM. Just give the word.

  5. OrderedChaos (Mike Rucki) says:

Heh, I’ll pass along the offer BlackAces. ๐Ÿ™‚
As for Clark, no word yet (and knowing GMGM, probably no word ever) on when he got injured.

  6. Sct118 says:

What does adding Semin and Green to the IR retroactively do? Is that just for more cap room?

  7. OrderedChaos (Mike Rucki) says:

    @ SCT118: You nailed it.

  8. Gustafsson says:

Actually, It doesn’t have to do with cap room, but roster space. LTIR gives you salary cap space, plain ole IR lets you go over the 23 man roster.

  9. strungout says:

I doubt the Bears skip a beat.
    Depth rules.

  10. Muddapucker says:

I hate to say this but the Caps were suffering, not only physically from all the injuries but also mentally. A long road trip and a three game losing streak beats you down.
I hope these four callups generate the enthusiasm and exuberance that gets the Caps turned around. These guys can fill the breech while some of the regulars heal. And who knows? One or two might stick…
    I smell opportunity!

  11. MulletMan says:

I’d kind of like to see BlackAces out there. Might even consider bringing my camera to photograph the fun ๐Ÿ˜‰
And what is this (11/26-game notes): Shultz – Broken finger 4-6 weeks.
I played the night I broke my finger…and continued to play during the healing.
    It’s just a flesh wound.

  12. Blackaces says:

Ha! Yea, bring the camera. It could be fun watching me get schooled! ๐Ÿ™‚
Seriously, though. Good to see the boys break the losing streak against a pretty good Thrashers team. I have a feeling Atlanta could be in the playoff hunt longer than most people suspect. Kovalchuk has been playing lights out. So we’ll see.
