Happy, Happy, Happy: College Playoff Puck on Local Cable TV This Weekend

TelevisionWonderful news: the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) will be airing the first of three NCAA hockey playoff games this weekend beginning at 8:30 this evening, with the Midwest Regional’s second game between BU and Michigan State. Tomorrow MASN will cover the East Regional Final at 6:00 p.m. followed immediately by the Midwest Regional Final at 8:30.
All three games will air live.
As if that wasn’t good enough news for local hockey fans, USA Today this morning is reporting that recently departed but not really departed WRC sports anchor George Michael and his “SportsMachine” program will air for the final time this Sunday evening. Where will we go for our NASCAR and rodeo footage??? USA Today acknowledges Michael’s fetish for the sporting fringe in its lead:

“Before NASCAR and bull-riding became cool, Michael gave them national exposure even on his earliest shows.”

Michael, we are told, will be found covering NASCAR races for DirecTV this summer.

Additionally, those with ESPNU can watch ALL of the early round games. The semifinals will be on ESPN2 with the final on ESPN.
    See the schedule HERE.

  2. It’s been said that the only thing tougher than finding Jimmy Hoffa is locating ESPNU on a local cable provider menu. MASN is relatively new to local TV viewers, and it’s really helping out college hockey fans here this weekend.

  3. VT Caps Fan says:

I’ve done some extensive research looking for espnU (mainly cause the hokies play their Div 1AA schedule on ESPNU) so for those that do not know… It’s on Direct TV and Dish (this is relatively new, but I’m not 100% sure); Anyone with Verizon FIOS has it; Comcast and Cox are still crappy and does not have it.

  4. Gustafsson says:

Between the sports pack and NHL Centre Ice, I love my DirecTV. Now, if only Verizon FIOS would add NHL Centre Ice to their lineup. Then I would have 2 viable options.

  5. Vogs says:

I’m home sick today watching the Clarkson-Mass game on Fox Sports NY, DirectTV channel 624. Life is good. Or getting better, anyway.

  6. TG says:

Too bad that by watching MASN, I’m directly supporting Peter Angelos. But I guess that’s a rant for another day.

  7. CapsChick says:

Best news ever! Looks like I’ll be passing up a life or some semblance of a life this weekend to watch a little college hockey. Life is definitely good.

  8. Gustafsson says:

Here’s a TV schedule that involves the whole tournament. It includes local tv/cable coverage which won’t help many of us, but the regional networks are also represented and those of us with DirecTVs (or digital cable’s) sports pack will be able to use.

  9. Brendan Major says:

Do you know if you can get MASN on Time Warner Cable ? I hope so because I am a hige BU fan!!!
