Legendary Swedish Coach Evaluates Nicklas Backstrom

If your Swedish is polished, you can read the article for yourself. The long and short of it is this: in a direct comparison with Peter Forsberg, former Swedish National Team coach Tommy Sandlin, who coached Sweden in the 1987 Canada Cup, claims that Caps’ ’06 first-rounder Nicklas Backstrom appears every bit as good as, if not better than, Forsberg.
Backstrom continues to lead the Swedish Elite League with 26 points (9 G, 17 A) in 21 games. He tallied 26 points in 46 games in that league a year ago.
Sandlin evaluated four categories:
Hockey Sense:
Backstrom: 5/5
Forsberg: 5/5
Technique
Backstrom: 4/5
Forsberg: 4/5
Win ability (or desire to win)
Backstrom: 5/5
Forsberg: 5/5
Leadership
Backstrom: 5/5
Forsberg: 4/5
Total: Backstrom: 19; Forbserg: 18
